- $1 billion for social housing renovations.
- $600 million for on-reserve accommodation for aboriginal people.
- $400 million for seniors' housing.
- $75 million for housing for people with disabilities.
This is an extremely important aspect of the budget considering lack of adequate housing for social programs in many Canadian cities. With the economy in a present downturn (or recession as it is being referred to), it is important that social programs get the much needed funding to keep them afloat. Yes, taxpayers will have to pay the price, but hopefully that price will be less over the longrun than having to pay to constantly upkeep substandard housing.
